The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reported today that “heavy fighting“ is taking place near the towns of Pokrovsk and Dobropilya in the Donetsk region and that they have sent reserves to stop the advance of small groups of Russian troops, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
In a statement, the General Staff of the AFU indicated that some of the groups trying to break through Ukrainian defense lines in the area have already been destroyed, while others clashed with Ukrainian forces.
The First Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov“ has taken up defensive positions in the Pokrovsk area, Ukrinform reported, citing a statement on “Facebook“ of the combat unit.
“The situation remains complex and dynamic. The enemy, trying to advance in this sector, suffers heavy losses in manpower and equipment“, the statement said. The “Azov“ units are planning and taking measures to block the enemy forces in the area and will report the results of their actions later.
Ukrinform also reported that Russian forces are also increasing their pressure in the area of Kupyansk and Novopavlovka, attacking near the administrative border between Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk regions.
“There is increased pressure throughout the sector. The Russians are trying to use the last summer month by bringing in reinforcements and advancing. Attempts to penetrate have so far been unsuccessful, but they are actively trying and will continue“, said the spokesman for the “Dnepr“ operational-strategic group of troops Viktor Tregubov.
He added that along the entire Dnieper Line of Control, Russian forces are "crawling as if this were their last chance."
