The security of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska will be provided by his personal staff, along with agents of the US "Secret Service". This was reported by TASS, citing a former US secret service officer.
"They are law enforcement professionals and will do everything possible to ensure that the leaders of their countries are fully protected," assured former officer Robert McDonald. The officer, who served in the "Secret Service" for more than 20 years, said political differences do not stand in the way of security cooperation.
Putin will visit Anchorage on Friday for a summit with United States President Donald Trump, likely to be held at the Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Base.
Despite initial reluctance to hold the summit at a U.S. military facility, the location was chosen because of difficulties in finding a secure and accessible location during Alaska's peak tourist season. Other cities, including Juneau and Fairbanks, were considered, but Anchorage emerged as the only option that met security requirements.
Shortly after Trump confirmed the summit site last week, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov indicated that the Kremlin hoped the next meeting would be held on Russian soil.
