The administration of US President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to decide whether he had the authority to impose broad tariffs under a law intended for use in emergencies, Reuters reported, citing court documents.
The Justice Department is appealing an appeals court ruling on August 29 that ruled that most of Trump's tariffs were illegal. It undermined the Republican president's use of these levies as a key tool of international economic policy.
The tariffs remain in place and will continue until at least October 14, according to an appeals court ruling.
