Trump signs executive order renaming Pentagon Department of War

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War, BNR reported.

"This is a much more appropriate name given the world we live in today", he told reporters in the Oval Office in the presence of Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, who will henceforth be referred to as "Secretary of War".

"I think this name sends a message of victory! I think it also sends a message of strength!", the US head of state emphasized.

This is not the first renaming of an institution or place by the American leader. It aims to convey a message of "strength and determination", as the previous one "emphasized only defense capabilities," the BBC commented, and also reminded that changing the name of ministries also requires approval from the United States Congress.

If it becomes a fact, the renaming would return the historical name of the department, used until 1947 and replaced after World War II.
