German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes that a united Europe must avoid false nostalgia and clearly define its interests when building relations with the United States.
He stated this at a conference of German ambassadors, which is being held at the country's Foreign Ministry.
„The United States is reassessing its interests - and this has not happened in the last few days“, Merz noted. "We in Europe must also clearly define our interests - without false nostalgia," he stressed.
"The United States will remain our most important partner, we strive for cooperation, we are ready for close coordination and cooperation, but it is clear that this partnership will be less obvious," Merz said.
"Our position towards the United States will depend on our strength as Europeans," he said. In this regard, he called on Europe to more actively seek new partners in the world and strengthen existing partnerships.
