The last section of the Europe motorway is being opened

The entire route from the Kalotina border checkpoint to Sofia will be traveled on a highway

The last section of the "Europe" motorway will be opened today, which means that the entire route from the "Kalotina" border checkpoint to Sofia will be traveled on a highway. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, quoted by BTA.

The launch of the section is planned to be attended by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov, GERB leader Boyko Borisov and Chairman of the Regional Committee in Parliament Nikolay Nankov.

The symbolic launch of the section for traffic is scheduled for 09:00.

BTA recalls that the total length of the route, which is an important part of the Trans-European Transport Network, is 63 km and starts from the border with the Republic of Serbia (at the "Kalotina" border checkpoint). It is included in the Northern Expressway, which is also part of the motorway. Through the tangent, the automobile and freight flow is distributed to the "Hemus" motorway and the "Trakia" Motorway.

The last section of the "Europe" Motorway between Slivnitsa and the Sofia Ring Road is 16.5 km.

Last month, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov inspected the finishing works on the highway and stated that it would be open to traffic in mid-September. At the time, the Minister said that the quality of execution was very good. The section is being financed by the European Union.
