People should know the truth – there is a lot of manipulation. In a specific case – the secretary of the National Security Council shows a report for a given team, then more and more new reports come out, but no one provides them to the media.
This is how the former President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev commented on the attempts to weaken the presidential institution, including the decision that the presidential administration should no longer use the services of the National Security Council.
On NOVA, Plevneliev explained that at such moments it is not the National Security Council employees who are moving, but the president's team, together with his advisors.
„In this specific case, we are talking about an event in Varna, which President Radev was supposed to attend. In 2014, I, with my entire team, was moving - this is my team, advisors, together with the secretaries. The event was extraordinary, and what the presidential advisor showed today was not such a report”, Plavneliev also said. He also emphasized that during the time he held the position, the attacks on the institution were much stronger than at the moment.
“It is right to check and compare the facts. There are enough reports from the security service. The president is an independent center of power, but he must work with everyone”, he explained. However, Plavneliev outlined a new political project or extraordinary instability in the country as a way to fight for this power.
“The way out of this struggle is in the hands of the citizens and in their learning that the opposition today is between democrats and populists”, he said. Plevneliev described the long-term lack of appointments to positions such as ambassadors or chairmen of the National Security Agency as “scandalous”.
”There were very difficult years for the country. There were demands for resignations. Even then, there were no such delays – but when new rulers come, they have really good ideas in some areas. The president is obliged to support them”, said Rosen Plevneliev.
”The president is one – for both the opposition and the rulers. However, Radev does not understand this”, he added. Regarding the arrests of high-ranking figures in recent months, Plevneliev also recalled the arrest of the leader of GERB – Boyko Borisov. He described this action as illegal.
”It seems that a rule book has been established for such scenarios – you take office, arrest your opponent, create your own channels for information. I hope Bulgaria does not reach such a point”, said Rosen Plevneliev.
