At this stage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not received a request from Moscow for Russian President Vladimir Putin's plane to fly through Bulgarian airspace on the way to Hungary, where he is expected to meet with his American counterpart Donald Trump.
The intention is for the summit in Budapest to take place in the next two weeks, with the date yet to be specified.
Earlier, European Commission spokeswoman Anita Hipper said that EU member states can make an exception to the ban on overflights over the Union's airspace.
"Any meeting that moves Ukraine towards a just and lasting peace is welcome," the spokeswoman added on the subject.
