Satellite images released by Yale University show mass executions by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Sudanese city of El Fasher, CBS News reports, quoted by FOKUS.
The Humanitarian Research Laboratory at the Yale School of Public Health published a report analyzing satellite images taken over the El Fasher area, where violence has escalated in recent days.
According to the report, a large number of RSF vehicles were observed patrolling areas of the city where civilians were hiding.
The image analysis, which shows dark red spots near the RSF vehicles, reveals clusters of objects comparable in size to human beings bodies.
These dark spots have been identified as the bodies of deceased people. However, they are missing from earlier images of the area.
According to the university, these images can be considered "evidence of mass executions carried out by the SDF in El Fasher".
Members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary militia, which has been at war with the Sudanese army since April 2023, took El Fasher on Sunday, driving the army from its last stronghold in the western Darfur region after an 18-month siege, CBS News reported.
The city of El Fasher, the largest in the Darfur region, has largely fallen under SDF control after prolonged fighting.
Since the fall of the city, there have been numerous reports of arbitrary executions, mass killings, sexual violence, attacks on aid workers, looting and kidnappings.
