The Constitutional Court's decision is a victory of the law over the arbitrariness of the political class. This decision is retroactive and states that the Speaker of Parliament cannot reject a proposal of a subject authorized by law. But what is happening this morning in the Bulgarian Parliament is some kind of farce and a new violation of the law in the same case. This was stated by President Rumen Radev to journalists after the Constitutional Court decided that former Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova had unlawfully rejected Radev's proposal to hold a referendum on our entry into the eurozone.
According to him, the excuses that the deputies cannot submit this proposal to the plenary hall and vote on it, as is proper, are a lie.
„You see, these excuses that there was no way they could vote on it because my reasons for a referendum were returned - this does not correspond to the truth. On May 13, I received from the National Assembly only a copy of Kiselova's order, but not my documents. My proposals and reasons are currently in the parliament, in their office. I call on the representatives of the people, if they have any dignity left, if they still have respect for the will of the people and the principles of democracy, to go to their office, take my proposal and reasons, bring them to the plenary hall, debate them, vote on them and pronounce clearly – will they comply with the will of the people or ignore it“, he insisted.
The head of state specified that there must be a decision, because that is what the Constitutional Court decision states.
“I have no reason to bring my reasons and proposals, they are currently in parliament. They are only asked to implement the law. Unfortunately, this parliament, instead of giving birth to laws, gives birth to lawlessness, scandals and disgust“, Radev also said.
