In no way does Bulgaria violate any international regulation on the export of defense-related assets – this is how Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev answered a question from journalists in Brussels.
The day before, the ambassador of Sudan to the European Union warned that weapons manufactured in Europe end up on the battlefield in the African country and fuel the atrocities in the civil war that has been going on for two years.
„I am not talking about the specific case with Sudan, but in principle you know that in Bulgaria there is very strict legislation regarding the export of defense and security-related assets and assets, these are dual-use. There is a mixed commission for export control. All this happens first in unison with Bulgarian legislation and with all international rules. In no way does Bulgaria violate any international regulation on the export of defense-related assets. So, we are very careful when dealing with this topic“, Georgiev pointed out.
When asked if he knew about the re-export of Bulgarian weapons from the UAE to Sudan, he said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has always adhered to what has actually been documented and determined according to the rules.
