Atanas Pekanov on the protests: There is great intolerance towards the abuse of power and people who think they are untouchable

He denied that there is any truth in the speculation that he would head President Radev's party or participate in his party lists

I watched the events on Monday with excitement. I myself did not expect this to happen. I did not expect so many different and all kinds of people, not only in Sofia, but throughout Bulgaria, to express holy dissatisfaction with the current situation in Bulgaria, the current political power and dissatisfaction with everything they see. It will be difficult for all these people to come together simply because of some parts of the budget that are being rightly criticized. But it is unlikely that 100,000 people in Sofia will come because of the "Dividend" tax, SUPTO and other similar things. He said this in an interview for "Face to Face" on bTV former acting deputy prime minister Atanas Pekanov.

“There is greater dissatisfaction and intolerance towards the abuse of power, excessive power. We saw this in the clips from the parliament last week - that there are some people who feel untouchable, who with aggression and malice insult young, and not only young, Bulgarian citizens for no reason. In other European countries this would have led to immediate resignations. Here this led to even greater agitation among them”, he added.

According to him, it is precisely such politicians who are “the real provocateurs of the protest”.

He denied that there is any truth in the speculation that he would head President Radev's party or participate in his party lists.

"There are two types of people who should be there: those who have already achieved a lot in their careers and have something to give to their country, and those who have decided to become professional politicians. There is nothing wrong with that, but I have chosen a different path”, Pekanov commented.

He and the head of state have not spoken this year, except to congratulate each other on their birthdays. “We have not talked about his possible party, nor about what will happen in the coming months. I don't think I will be part of any party in new elections. I don't have a favorite party. There are policies that I support," the former deputy prime minister noted.

He also criticized the increase in salaries in unreformed structures in the state. "We don't get what we expect from them. For example, the justice system and other systems in Bulgaria are not at the level they should be. And it's normal for people to protest against this," Pekanov noted.

"I don't know if this government has a future to adopt a budget. We'll see in the coming weeks. I hope Borisov thinks about how he wants to go down in history. He has to decide this in the coming days. In my opinion, after Pazardzhik, he had decided something, but then changed his mind. The other participants in power also have to think about it. Unfortunately, I have lost all hope that the BSP will reconsider something. It seems that the protest there is already on the verge of liquidation. "When the last desks and armchairs from "Positano" are sold, they will leave power," he further commented.
