Pargov: If Radev gets involved in active politics, all parties will lose votes. But he will hardly have 121 MPs

"There needs to be a balance and then we will decide on the leadership position in the BSP", Pargov added

Every party was created to fight and come to power. If the BSP refuses to fight, then it has no point in existing as a party. This was commented by the deputy chairman of the BSP in resignation, Kaloyan Pargov, in the program "Denyat ON AIR".

"The BSP has entered into more than one or two coalitions in the past. Now there will be early elections - we will see requests "never again with anyone" - and what do we do? In politics "never again" they don't say, but they say - "we will never make a mistake like such a policy, such an action". This is fundamental", Pargov told Bulgaria ON AIR.

Ukraine is a red line for the BSP

The resigned Deputy Chairman of the BSP emphasized that for the party, the topic "Ukraine" was a "red line".

"We did not allow the parliament to support a 10-year contract with Ukraine at the beginning of the government. We did not allow the sale of the reactors of the "Belene" NPP to Kiev. We did not allow the sending of a Bulgarian military contingent to Ukraine," Pargov emphasized.

"There is always damage when you participate in government. "How big it is, we will see in the elections," he said, commenting on the effect of the government on electoral support.

Possible appearance of Rumen Radev on the political scene

When asked whether the BSP has concerns about the possible participation of President Rumen Radev in party politics, Pargov indicated that such a move would affect a wide range of formations.

In his words, "the president will take votes from many parties".

The debate on the leadership in the BSP

Pargov emphasized that the party is going to analyze the situation before personnel decisions are made.

"There needs to be a stocktaking and then we will decide on the leadership position in the BSP," he said.

On the topic of resignations Pargov made a distinction between the personal and the collective act.

"A personal resignation is a personal moral act – the collective resignation was intended to calm the tension and give time to make decisions soberly, not under emotion", he explained.

Expectations from the BSP plenum

According to Pargov, at the party plenum, scheduled for January 10, the BSP will have the opportunity to make important decisions. He expressed confidence that "the BSP will be able to make good decisions in the situation we are in – pre-election and in connection with entering the Eurozone".

Pargov stressed the importance of dialogue between political forces.

"If we want to become a normal state, no matter how much we hate each other, responsibility means being able to talk to each other, no matter who is who", he said and added that political leaders must hold talks in order to find a way out of the current situation.

In his words, if Radev joins active politics, "all existing political parties will lose votes and support at his expense, but there will hardly be 121", which means that a coalition will be needed again.

In conclusion, Pargov does not rule out a future coalition with the president if he enters the political arena.
