At a leadership meeting on Wednesday, “We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria” decided to register as two separate parliamentary groups in the new National Assembly.
The PP has proposed signing an agreement that stipulates that the coalition formations will come out with a common candidacy for president, for a candidate for the by-elections for the “Sredets“ district, and to remain united in the municipal councils.
"I saw that there are people who sit further to the right and do not vote with the common formation because they think that the PP's policies are too left-wing. However, we think that they are centrist. In Europe, we are also in two different families. Now each formation will have the opportunity to develop its own physiognomy", commented PP leader Asen Vassilev after the meeting at the headquarters of "Karnigradska".
„As chairman of "Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria", I pleaded before the general forum that the division of the parliamentary group is a serious political mistake that creates risks for the development of Bulgaria. Together with my colleagues from "Yes, Bulgarians" we were "for" preserving unity", pointed out Atanas Atanasov.
Bozhidar Bozanov addressed the voters of DB with the words: "We made every effort to preserve unity in the group. From "Democratic Bulgaria" we continue to be the guarantor of the modernization of the country and its European path”.
The last few weeks have been marked by disputes between the coalition partners regarding the candidate lists and the subsequent final decision of Assen Vassilev to enter as an MP from Plovdiv, thus leaving Manol Peykov out of the 52nd National Assembly. This is how today's leadership meeting came about. The invitation for a conversation came from “We Continue the Change”. A few days ago, “Yes Bulgaria” demanded that PP-DB become a “united political entity” and that a coalition agreement be signed.
Before the meeting, Ivaylo Mirchev made a brief comment to journalists. “We enter the meeting with a clear mandate from our bodies for a united “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” group. It is extremely important to be together because we must oppose the concentration of power of “Progressive Bulgaria”. It is important to be united even before the presidential elections”, said Mirchev, emphasizing that the DB insists on a common parliamentary group with the PP.
The leader of the PP, Assen Vassilev, chose not to talk about the tension in the coalition, but about the budget.
”The most important news today is that the budget came out at zero, so there are no problems, as we explained two weeks ago. There should be no concerns for Bulgarian citizens”, said Vassilev upon entering the headquarters of “Karnigradska”.
We recall that on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria” On Monday, Nikolay Denkov pointed out that the PP and the DB are “very far” from being one party. Then the deputy chairman of “Continue the Change” said that why the creation of a party was proposed is a question whose answer should be sought by the DB. “The very fact that it is proposed to be a subject in the right-wing political space, given that we have always said that we are a centrist party and we want to be national - shows that we have differences about what our political activity should look like”, Denkov was categorical.
A common political subject in the center-right and a coalition agreement were discussed by “Yes, Bulgaria“. “We can only be an alternative in this way”, co-chairman Ivaylo Mirchev was categorical in an interview with “In Focus“. “The fact is that we lost these elections. We did our own analysis, there are reasons for this. The National Council of “Yes, Bulgaria“ came up with a decision that measures should be taken. We wanted to be the political instrument of the protesters. This worked out to a rather low degree. The growth of 60,000 votes for us is absolutely insufficient. It does not satisfy us and we will look for our mistakes. We want to have a common political entity with the PP, which would be in the center right and would include other formations,“ explained Mirchev.
