The Simeonov lift stops for good and will no longer be repaired. This was stated in a Facebook post by the leader of " Save Sofia" Boris Bonev.
The Italian company "TechnoAlpin" owns the Bulgarian owner of the facility "Vitosha Ski". The ropeway to the "Aleko" hut has been damaged since the end of October due to another engine failure.
The lack of spare parts is the reason for its final closure, cited by the Italians, who are famous manufacturers of artificial snow cannons.
This lift has been operating since 1982 and was municipal until 2007, when the then mayor of Sofia, Boyko Borisov, sold it along with the rest of Vitosha's ropeways - Dragalevsky and Knyazhevsky, to "Vitosha Ski".
"The EXECUTIONER of Vitosha lifts is called Boyko Borisov, who as mayor in 2007 privatized them in a scandalous deal! Today we can't go up the mountain with a lift because of GERD!", Bonev wrote.
Now none of the three are operational and access to the mountain is only by buses and cars.
