A 9-year-old boy, who was arrested in Plovdiv a few days ago because of a clip showing him driving at nearly 140 km/h in urban conditions, was released today by the court on bail. strong> reported by BNT.

As a reason for its decision, the court panel pointed out that there was no definite evidence that it was he who sat behind the wheel of the car.

On May 26, the district prosecutor's office charged Petar Petrov with indecent behavior and hooliganism. Today in the courtroom, however, the judge rejected the requested most severe measure "detention in custody" on the grounds that speeding in the city did not cause an accident, and according to court practice, it is not enough to qualify Petrov's actions as hooliganism. The authorship of the act, which was the main thesis of the defense, was also unclear.

"Regarding the driving, the cars were exchanged with other so-called friends of his. I.e. this car was driven for about 2 months by the one person who is a witness in the case. I don't want to name names at this stage, but the truth is yet to be revealed," said Nadezhda Popova – Petrov's lawyer.

According to the prosecutor's office, however, there is sufficient evidence that it was Petrov who was driving on the evening in question.

"There are two witnesses. I dare to say that on the incriminated date they were moving with him, one of whom was taking pictures. In this case, we have a young man who is 19 years old and is driving in the central part of the city at a speed that at one point reaches 140 km. It is absolutely unacceptable to tolerate such behavior and to come out with the version that this is only an administrative violation that should be prosecuted through fines", commented Plamen Pantov – supervising prosecutor.

For his short experience as a driver, the young man already has more than 20 fines with receipts. The prosecutor's office will appeal the decision of the district court in Plovdiv.
