The sudden receipts from the European funds under the old operational programs have brought the budget to a surplus in April. The receipts from the European Union in the treasury are in the amount of BGN 1.5 billion, with smaller expenses - in the amount of BGN 870 million. Thus, a surplus is formed from the funds from the EU, which brings the entire consolidated fiscal program to a plus.
This is shown by the data of the Ministry of Finance on the implementation of the budget at the end of April, quoted by Nova TV. The department has not yet presented the estimated data for the implementation of the budget for May.
The budget news towards the end of the fourth month of the year is good. The Ministry of Finance reports a surplus of 596.6 million bv. against the background of a deficit of BGN 1 billion as of April 2023. However, the positive balance is also due to separate temporary effects. Higher receipts from the EU are one of the explanations for the surplus in the treasury.
This year, money from the EU under the old program period under the operational programs is suddenly coming in. The deadline for spending on them expired at the end of 2023. However, a big minus is still expected in terms of money from Brussels , along with the delay in requests for payments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
In April, there are separate one-off receipts from the national budget, such as the contribution of the BNB in the amount of BGN 669 million, which in turn has a favorable effect on the balance.
