First rescue mission of the medical helicopter: They transported a woman in a serious condition from Shumen

Emergency Medical Assistance Center team at the air carried out its first mission today.

After a series of training flights, the medical team – Dr. Vera Ivanova and nurse Georgi Radoev, were sent on a signal to provide emergency assistance by air. The signal was sent to the Air Medical Emergency Center (EMSA) at 7:30 a.m. The helicopter took off at 8.02. At 8:45 a.m., it stops for refueling in the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa, from where it takes off again at 9:17 a.m. At 9:42 a.m., the helicopter lands at Shumen Medical Center to transport the patient to the city of Sofia.

We remind you that the Ministry of Health has completed all the necessary protocols for the start of Air Emergency Medical Assistance activities.

Just last year, one hundred medical specialists were certified after passing through physical, medical examinations and training at the base of the Military Medical Academy – Sofia.

Next, recruitment was carried out and six medical teams were formed. On May 29, 2024, the additional training of the medical teams from “Leonardo” to work with the medical equipment on board the helicopter. After all the necessary preparatory and training events, the medical staff was absolutely ready to carry out missions and duty teams were created to work in the CSMPV. Today the duty team received their first real call for emergency air support.

Regarding System 112, we remind you that in 2023, an Air Medical Emergency Center (AMEC) was established. It houses the Coordination Center, which receives signals for cases requiring emergency medical assistance by air. The center is equipped and staffed and is also absolutely ready for work. The necessary integration with the 112 System has also been carried out, as well as test sessions according to the signal submitted.

The first mission today is from the so-called hospital to hospital. The patient, who is in a serious condition, was transported from Shumen Hospital to the St. Catherine hospital heliport. From there he was taken over by a resuscitation team and transported to the Military Medical Academy.
