The Constitutional Court will examine the merits of the request to declare the election of the new members of the Constitutional Court Desislava Atanasova unconstitutional and Borislav Belazelkov, BNT reported.
The two were elected on January 19, 2024 by the 49th National Assembly.
The request for unconstitutionality was made by President Rumen Radev and a group of people's representatives from "Vazrazhdane". As a motive, the president indicated that with the election of Atanasova and Belazelkov, they were unconstitutionally assigned a full mandate of 9 years, instead of seven, since two years have passed since the end of the mandate of their predecessors from the parliamentary quota.
