Nearly 6,000 were caught driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs in the first five months of the year alone, according to Ministry of Internal Affairs data cited by bTV.
In the last 24 hours alone, there were nearly 60 of them, with 40 of them getting into their car drunk, and 16 people sitting behind the wheel after using drugs. Seven vehicle drivers have refused a test.

Since the beginning of the year, there are more than 1,700 drivers with over 1.2 parts per million of alcohol in their blood.
In total, over 4,500 people consumed alcohol.

The drivers who drove under the influence of drugs are nearly 2,700.
“It doesn't matter if it is small or big. If you have alcohol in your blood, your concentration runs away. You can't judge whether the car is 5, 10, 15 meters in front of you”, explains car racer Ivan Valchev, who is also the general secretary of the ECTP.

According to him, an intoxicated person cannot react like a person who drives without a drop of alcohol.
“Your reaction slows down, your thinking slows down. You think about some other things because you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It should not be done. Do you drink – there is a drink and drive. They bring you home alive and well. They are for this“, says Ivan Valchev.
