The chairman of the parliamentary group of the PP-DB Academician Nikolay Denkov sent a letter to acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, in which the position of the coalition is reaffirmed, that the parliament should listen and decide who should be the Bulgarian European Commissioner. The letter emphasizes that Bulgaria is in an unprecedented political crisis and the caretaker government does not have the necessary legitimacy to appoint the Bulgarian European Commissioner for the next five years. The proposal of the PP-DB coalition is for Julian Popov to be the next Bulgarian European Commissioner.
Yuliyan Popov is one of the most influential voices in Europe on the subject of "Energy" and therefore we rely on him as a non-partisan candidate and an expert of high competence. In a moment of political crisis, the promotion of a non-party figure with the status of a world expert is the way to show that the Bulgarian interest is greater than the narrow party one.
Yuliyan Popov has significant expertise in other areas as well: climate, environment and education. He was Minister of Ecology in two governments and is also one of the founders of New Bulgarian University. Until taking office in the last regular government, he was the chairman of the European Building Performance Institute (BPIE), the leading think-tank in Brussels in the field of building and regional policy.
Bulgaria receives a portfolio of regional policy in the EC
According to the PP-DB coalition, Bulgaria should receive a department in the European Commission that will be truly strategic for our country.
We believe that the department "Energy" is appropriate as Bulgaria has proven that it has managed to free itself from energy dependence on Russia in the fields of gas, oil and nuclear fuel. Therefore, the appointment of a specialist in this field as a European Commissioner will be of key importance both for the Bulgarian interest in Brussels and for the European interest on a global scale, announced the press center of the PP-DB.
