Daniel Stefanov: Whoever takes the DPS brand, he takes both the name and the abbreviation

"That is, if some register the party like this, the others will have to comply or they will have to make another party that does not contain DPS, added the teacher in political science Vanya Nusheva.

"Today is the beginning of party registration. It will take place in an extremely short period – until September 11. After that, there is an opportunity to make changes in the coalitions. The lists must be registered by September 24.“
This was stated in the show “This Morning” political science teacher Vanya Nusheva.

„In the meantime, the CEC will face a situation where no consensus has been reached on the composition of the regional election commissions and will have to decide what the composition of these commissions will be. Obviously, we see a situation in which the problems in two of the political parties (DPS and BSP - note ed.) will create a series of questions for the CEC, and probably for the court“, Nusheva further specified.
In the studio of "This Morning" Stoil Tsitselkov - member of the Public Council of the CEC, and Daniel Stefanov - political scientist and election expert were also guests.

According to Tsitselkov, a party cannot register twice.
There is a difficult decision ahead in the CEC - to decide which party is legitimate, which has all the attributes necessary to register. The case will be in the field of the CEC”, he emphasized.

According to Daniel Stefanov, today the two wings of the DPS are competing to see who will take the DPS brand.
“The truth is that whoever takes it, he takes both the name and the abbreviation. By law, no other party or coalition can have the same name or abbreviation. It cannot duplicate the abbreviation that already exists as a registration”, explained the political scientist.

Vanya Nusheva added that the possibility to register a coalition that contains the full name or the abbreviation will also be blocked.

„That is, if some register the party like this, the others will have to comply or they will have to create another party that does not contain DPS“, added Nusheva.
Stoil Tsitselkov compared the situation to football.

„In football it happens – there are teams with the same names, but the law stipulates that no two political formations or coalitions can have the same abbreviation or name. Even with the letters of DPS to play with, to put other words – they still can't use it," he added.

Daniel Stefanov defined the case as extremely interesting.
„If Chairman Chakarov registers the DPS today, Chairman Peevski will most likely not be able to register the lists. Because when registering in the CEC, a representative of the political party is determined and this is already the person who will authorize the people who will register the lists in the regional election commissions”, he said.
“However, we must realize that this is not about stopping one or the other wing from appearing in elections. Today or tomorrow it is more or less determined who connects to the main registration of the DPS. This does not restrict the other from appearing in the elections,”,
Stefanov also stated.

Stoil Tsitselkov expressed deep doubt that the party “DPS– A New Beginning“ of Delyan Peevski is registered online.
I highly doubt that the party was registered online because the law clearly states that registration starts at 9:30 a.m. I believe they scanned all the necessary documents and submitted them, which they consider to be proper registration, but the CEC it must be pronounced“, he added.
