The SJC discusses resuming the procedure for selecting a chief prosecutor

Personnel have written this item on their agenda on September 9

The Supreme Judicial Council is debating whether to resume the procedure for selecting a new chief prosecutor, chairman of The Supreme Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court. Personnel have written this item on their agenda on September 9.

We remind you that on July 6, 2023, the Plenum of the SJC stopped the procedure for the selection of a new prosecutor No. 1. The personnel then decided that they would not discuss the topic until the Constitutional Court ruled on the appeal of the former chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev, who attacked the changes in the ZSV and the NPC. According to them, 13 votes will now be needed to elect and dismiss the chief prosecutor, instead of the previous 17.
