Daniel Lorer: I see at least three motives in the president's statement

According to him, this referendum is unconstitutional

I see at least three motives in the statement of President Rumen Radev last night. The first is the most topical and the most political, namely diverting attention from the "Botas" affair. The second motive is that the president enjoys exercising representative and executive power. And lastly, there is the geopolitical context - on the one hand, there is the Russian thread in May 9, and on the other - the anti-European thread. This was commented on by the MP from "Continuing Change - Democratic Bulgaria" Daniel Lorer to BNT.

According to him, this referendum is unconstitutional - it was discussed in parliament, and there was also a decision of the Constitutional Court.

"What is even more curious is that in 2022 President Radev himself explains to his undisguised allies from the "Vazrazhdane" party that they cannot demand a referendum on the euro because it is unconstitutional. And suddenly on May 9 - the last train, let's try again to derail Bulgaria's European train, but they won't succeed," Laurer pointed out.

The PP-DB has stated its position:

"Until Bulgaria's admission to the eurozone, this government is fulfilling our key priority. We believe that Bulgaria must complete its path to Europe - we cannot be semi-Europeans all the time. We have entered Schengen, our justice system, which was under surveillance, is gradually freeing itself from this, although with all the question marks that it continues to have. Our fight is to be full-fledged Europeans and to have the right to everything - both the euro and free movement."

Until this process is completed, we believe that with the current government, whatever it is, even if it covers up corruption and abuses in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we have one key battle together and that is the completion of the eurozone, added Daniel Laurer.
