Our choice was made 35 years ago. Our Euro-Atlantic orientation is definitive. We have been in this position both when we were in the government of the country and in opposition. So our goal is clear. With these words, the chairman of the PG of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dzhevdet Chakarov commented on the president's expressed desire to submit a proposal to parliament for a referendum on the euro.
According to him, his party has declared its goals - even now when withdrawing support for this government, leaving the parliamentary majority. Chakarov pointed out that it is still necessary to see with what motives the referendum will be submitted.
"Let's also see the convergence report, which will be submitted in just a few days. It is important to see the financial framework through the position of the European financial institutions. After that, the collective body will decide what position we will have. But our orientation is definitive – Euro-Atlantic", said the chairman of the PG of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms".
In response to a journalist's question whether the Constitutional Court has already made a decision in connection with the announcement of referendums on the topic of the euro, Chakarvo was categorical that "lawyers must rule on the issue". According to him, this is a legal case and in view of the position that will be presented in a comprehensive framework - this will be discussed and "seen by us".
