Nikolay Valkanov: It is expected that from August 8, stores will display prices in leva and euro

Both prices must be written in the same way, in the same font, next to each other. This will be the case until the end of 2026.

There is clearly confusion, especially among older people - they think there is a discount when they see a second price on the label. However, this is the euro equivalent of the price. This was stated by Nikolay Valkanov, executive director of the Association for Modern Trade (SMT), in connection with the display of both currencies - leva and euro, in stores.

„It is expected that from August 8 this will become a legal requirement for all traders, since by July 8 we expect the final decision and official date for entry into the eurozone”, he explained.

The two prices must be written in the same way, in the same font, next to each other. This will be the case until the end of 2026.

The change will be returned in euros, and if it runs out - in leva. There will be an initial replenishment by the BNB and commercial banks, probably in December.

There are exceptions, but they do not exclude the trader's commitment to inform the consumer about the euro value. This is the case with fuel prices at gas stations, as well as with vending machines.
