A lot has been heard about the case of nursing homes. I must clarify that a state is not governed on the principle of divide and rule state institutions. This is becoming increasingly visible. What was revealed in the so-called nursing homes is extremely shocking. This was stated by the Deputy City Prosecutor of Sofia Desislava Petrova in the program “From the Day“ on BNT.
The Prosecutor's Office could have intervened earlier if its powers to supervise legality had not been revoked in 2023. I recall that in 2022, the Prosecutor's Office carried out inspections to supervise legality in nursing homes and irregularities were found, and prescriptions were issued. Then we made the results public. The state then took urgent measures and increased their funding, she explained.
The citizens' sense of justice will be restored when the institutions work in sync. It is no secret that attempts have been made to control the Prosecutor's Office for years, Petrova pointed out.
I absolutely agree that the findings from these homes are extremely unacceptable and show serious moral decline. As for the legislative deficit, there is a working group in the Ministry of Justice that is working on this problem. The state is not completely tied in this case. It must be understood that each state body can carry out inspections only to the extent that it is charged with by law. The Prosecutor's Office can intervene only if serious crimes are committed. In this case, we will be uncompromising after the serious violations found, the deputy city prosecutor assured.
Even if there are confessions, they must be supported by evidence. Publicly released information is not evidence. Our fight is to prove where the truth lies. No one can be accused just because of one statement, Desislava Petrova specified.
Regarding the case of the death of little Siyana, the prosecutor explained that they are currently working on whether the RIA committed an official crime. It is a matter of expert determination whether the necessary evidence will be collected.
