The Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov speaks on current energy topics at the “Maritsa East 2 Thermal Power Plant“ in the village of Kovachevo. The Minister's visit takes place on the eve of Energy Day. The main topic was the price of electricity - especially for consumers.

As one of the greatest achievements of the “Zhelyazkov“ cabinet, the Minister defined precisely the fact that household subscribers remain on the regulated market after an agreement with Brussels. According to Zhecho Stankov, this guarantees the long-term operation of the thermal power plants, since in practice the state energy sector, through public tenders, will continue to supply electricity, bTV reported.

In other words, the topic of the “Botash“ deal was again on the agenda in the minister's speech. The occasion was speculation last week by politicians who compared the deal to the construction of the “Balkan Stream“ gas pipeline. According to Minister Stankov, there is absolutely no similarity between the two - the gas pipeline brings profit to our country, while he defined the other as only an expense.

The minister also announced that at the beginning of this month the invoice we have from “Botash“ is worth 500 million leva - and half of it has not yet been paid.

“The “Maritsa-Iztok“ complex will supply nearly 50% of the energy for household consumers in Bulgaria. This means long-term work for both the power plants in the region and for over 6 thousand people involved in mining activities,“ said Minister Stankov.
