Gen. Grudi Angelov: There is a risk to our national security

Conflicts can quickly escalate

At the summit in The Hague, NATO countries adopted a decision by which they committed themselves to spending 5% of GDP on defense and security from 2035 onwards.

"5% is even a small amount. Long years of underfunding of the Bulgarian army lead to demotivation of the personnel", commented the former head of the Military Academy and lecturer at UniBIT Gen. Grudi Angelov on the show "Denyat ON AIR".

According to him, we do not have a national strategy that would determine the national interests of our country.

"Is Russia the biggest rival of NATO? Let's look at the relations between China and the USA. They are a wonderful partner in economic terms. Why shouldn't we be like that, why should we accept everything as black or white, why should we be people of extremes? We have to suffer for our prosperity, our future," Gen. Angelov told Bulgaria ON AIR.

In his words, we continue to wander.

"Drones are the present, but are they the future of war? There is a risk for the country, but there is no danger or threat. But conflicts can escalate and change their direction very quickly," Gen. Angelov warned.

"I believe that oil supplies to China will not be disrupted, but there will be tension. The tension in the Middle East cannot be eliminated overnight. This conflict has been simmering since the creation of Israel, the question is not to escalate," he commented. According to him, the biggest winner of the two conflicts - Israel-Iran and Russia-Ukraine - is China, because supplies of oil products are increasing. "The war is very strange in the way it is fought. It is fought in small groups with drones. This should also direct us to these techniques, while we are preparing the old actions with heavy machines and tanks. We are now switching to lighter machines", pointed out Gen. Angelov.

He noted that Turkey is a regional leader and is trying to mediate in both conflicts because the UN cannot control the situations.

"The goal of the conflict is to bring Europe to its knees", emphasized Gen. Angelov.

According to him, technologies are developing too quickly, and the leaders are the USA and China.

"The personnel for Bulgaria is of utmost importance. "People's motivation has fallen dramatically. We are still not compatible with the armies in NATO. We need rearmament," emphasized Gen. Angelov.
