Toll cameras will photograph drivers driving in the emergency lane on highways. Violators will be sanctioned with hefty fines by the traffic police. And the photos from the toll cameras will be sent to the regional directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the imposition of the fine. This was insisted on by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
The director of the “National Toll Directorate" Prof. Oleg Asenov announced that toll cameras are already detecting those driving in the emergency lanes. He also showed a documentary record of such a violation.
"The recording contains photos of the front and rear license plates, as well as a panoramic one. They categorically confirm that the specific car was driving in the emergency lane, so the violation is valid, and the sanctions are 1,000 leva and three months without a license. The information is sent directly to the Ministry of Interior's system, which distributes it to the regional directorates, and then the fines are sent to the violators. There have been no sanctions yet, drivers will start being informed on Monday. The entire scheme of sanctioning and preparing an electronic ticket will be implemented in 3-4 minutes," explained Asenov. He added that 400 violators were registered for the last weekend alone.
According to him, the measurement of average speed from camera to camera will soon be a fact. "The technological type was approved on June 23. We are in the final phase of integration with the Ministry of Interior, we expect the deputies to finish their work as soon as possible. From the fall, we will have the opportunity to use the toll cameras for instantaneous speed," the head of the toll administration specified.
According to him, the information that the RIA will provide over 18 million leva. for 1200 cameras is correct, but we are talking about different devices than toll devices - we are talking about an automatic counting system.
