The municipal councilors of “Democratic Bulgaria” are checking each of the 4,400 properties announced for sale with “no longer needed” and in many cases it turns out that there is a need and benefit from them. This was stated by the co-chairman of “Yes, Bulgaria” Bozhidar Bozanov at a press conference in Plovdiv.
“The 4,400 state properties announced for sale with “no longer needed” are yet another example of a policy without adequate preliminary analysis. Municipal councilors from the DB check each property based on the map created by the member of the National Council of “Yes, Bulgaria” Boyan Yurukov. We check property by property to see if there is really no longer a need or if local communities can actually use these properties. That is, the municipality, for example, should acquire them”, Bojanov also said.
The former Minister of e-Government pointed out striking examples of green areas, lands of great cultural and historical importance and fishing villages, which were included in the list of 4,400 properties for sale.
“We must clearly state that we, as a right-wing party, are not against the denationalization of these properties. If some of them are really no longer necessary and an adequate analysis has been conducted, yes - they should be sold so that the state does not accumulate property that it cannot manage well. However, this work is clearly not done. That is why we have asked the Minister of Regional Development how and by what criteria these properties were selected. We insist that the sales procedures be as transparent as possible”, Bozanov emphasized.
The municipal councilor of the PP-DB in Plovdiv, Vesselina Aleksandrova, stated that the group has submitted a draft decision proposing that four properties in Plovdiv with a total area of 30,000 sq. m. be provided to the municipality for the construction of a nursery, kindergarten, park and cultural space with an open stage.
“These are four empty plots of land that the state declares that it no longer needs. All of them are near Lovno Pole. If the state does not need them, then the Plovdiv municipality has been suffering from an increasingly serious problem for years - a rapidly increasing rate of population growth. The municipality is not ready to cope, and this is also due to the lack of sufficiently large terrains,” Aleksandrova was categorical.
The representative of “Yes, Bulgaria” added that the state must step into its role and take care of the citizens, providing the properties as quickly as possible and without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles.
“The lack of public infrastructure is an increasingly tangible problem. With the rapidly increasing number of homes and residents, we are falling further and further behind in terms of public infrastructure and are in a situation that is becoming critical for the mental and physical health of Plovdiv residents. We hope that our proposal will be unanimously adopted at the upcoming session of the municipal council”, emphasized Aleksandrova.
Municipal councilor and chairman of DSB - Plovdiv Vladimir Slavenski recalled that in the last few terms of office, the Plovdiv municipality has been constantly losing such land, instead of planning and utilizing it for public infrastructure.
“Especially during the past term, we witnessed several deals that grossly harmed the public interest. An example of this was the case when, in order to acquire the “Recreation and Culture” park, a deal was made for seven similar properties like the ones we now want to acquire from the state. They were exchanged for private interest. It was a “horse for chicken” type deal,”, concluded Slavenski.
