BSP: Unification is a lesson that when we Bulgarians put the interests of the Fatherland above personal and party interests, we succeed

Today, 140 years later, the spirit of Unification is needed more than ever. Unification today means social justice - no Bulgarian should be left behind. It means economic development - the regions should have a chance for prosperity, and the young - for a future here, in the homeland, say even those from the left

Today, September 6, Bulgaria celebrates one of its most glorious historical deeds - the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia. On this day in 1885, our people, despite international pressure, despite the fears and hesitations of the Great Powers, despite their own internal differences, showed determination and character and clearly declared to the world that the national ideal is stronger than any external will.
Union is an exceptional example of how political foresight, the courage of Bulgarian officers and soldiers, the support of the people and the unification of progressive forces lead to a historic victory. This is a lesson that when Bulgarians act together, when we put the interests of the Fatherland above personal and party interests, we succeed.

This is stated in a statement by the BSP-United Left on the occasion of today's holiday, sent to the media. Here is more from the statement:

Today, 140 years later, the spirit of Unification is needed more than ever. Unification today means social justice – no Bulgarian should be left behind. It means economic development – the regions should have a chance for prosperity, and the young people – for a future here, in the homeland. It means sovereignty – decisions for Bulgaria should be made in the interest of Bulgarian citizens, and not under dictation from outside. It means democracy – honest politics, the rule of law and accountability of the authorities to the people.
A tribute to the memory of the heroes of the Unification! Let us be worthy of their successors and continue their work – with courage, reason and love for the Motherland.
Happy holiday!
