New Zealand announced that it is reinstating sanctions against Iran, Foreign Minister Winston Peters announced, quoted by TASS, BTA reports.

A statement issued by the New Zealand Foreign Ministry emphasizes that the decision reflects the serious concern of the international community about Iran's failure to comply with its commitments on uranium enrichment.

“New Zealand consistently supports diplomatic efforts to prevent nuclear weapons proliferation and we strongly urge Iran to resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency“, Peters said.

The minister added that the new sanctions, which include financial restrictions and a ban on entering the country, will come into effect on 18 October.

“The measures include asset freezes, restrictions on the import and export of certain nuclear and military goods, and a travel ban for individuals on the sanctions list. From February 1, 2026, all New Zealand citizens doing business with Iran will be required to register with the government,“ Peters said.
