Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on Europe, as well as the parties to the conflict in Ukraine and other stakeholders, to engage in negotiations, noting that US mediation on this issue has a chance of success.
„In the absence of the US, Europe must seek more creative solutions in order to become more resilient. I believe that the only viable way to end this war is through sincere and determined participation in negotiations. Good mediation efforts are currently underway. "I hope that American mediation will help achieve success, they have every chance of success," Fidan said during a discussion at the Doha forum.
The 23rd Doha Forum, titled "Justice in Action: From Promise to Progress," is being held on December 6 and 7 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Doha. The forum participants are discussing a wide range of issues related to politics, security and economics.
The main goal of the international stabilization force in the Gaza Strip, the formation of which is currently under discussion, is to establish a dividing line between Palestinians and Israelis, Fidan said.
“We will continue to contribute to the ongoing peace efforts in Gaza. As for the international stabilization force, extensive discussions are currently underway on how to form this structure, what its specific tasks will be and what the rules of engagement will be. I believe that when formulating the mission of this force, we must be realistic and take into account the nuances, as the real conditions exist on the ground. Our first priority in deploying the force should be the separation of Palestinians and Israelis at the border,“ he said.
Once this part of the mission is completed, Fidan said, “other issues can be addressed“. “Everything this mission does will also be linked to the activities of other structures, in particular the police, which will be strengthened and trained. In addition, we will have a Palestinian local administration and a peace council. All these bodies will probably work in a coordinated manner,“ the minister noted.
He added that “once this system is more or less established, we will be able to talk about realistic expectations for the international mission“. At the moment, he said, in the context of the formation of a stabilization force, “there is a fundamental problem“ regarding “which countries will contribute, in what volume and format“.
