"Russians out!" This is what Hungarians chanted in the Budapest metro after the results of the parliamentary elections were announced, the French daily Le Monde reported. By the morning, Budapest had become a party zone, Reuters adds. All this is because after 16 years in power, Viktor Orban lost, and his rival Peter Magyar's party, "Tisa", won over 53% of the vote, far ahead of the prime minister's Fidesz, which collected only 38%.

The outcry against the Russians came after it turned out that there was a Moscow informant and an executor of Russia's orders in Orban's government at the European Union level.

It is no coincidence that Orban used his right to veto key decisions in Brussels, including financial support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.

"The electoral defeat of the outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a close ally of Russia who blocked European Union aid to Ukraine, gave "good hope" that this aid "can be granted very quickly", the German government said on Monday. The Hungarian leader has blocked a €90 billion EU loan for the war-torn country from the end of 2025, as well as a new round of EU sanctions against Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron hailed on behalf of France the victory of democratic participation, of the Hungarian people's attachment to the values of the European Union and for Hungary in Europe.

"Everyone feared that there was an inevitable trend, that it would be the era of authoritarian and corrupt regimes. No, that is not the case," Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is pro-European, told Polish journalists in Seoul on Monday, where he is on an official visit.
