Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told his Muslim counterparts on Monday that Israel is pushing the region towards “complete catastrophe“ with its attacks on Iran, Reuters reported. Fidan added that world powers must prevent the conflict from escalating, BTA reported.
At a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, Fidan called on Muslim countries to support Iran against Israel and said that the region has an “Israeli problem“ after the Gaza offensive and attacks in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said it would be “very, very dangerous for everyone” if the United States actively gets involved in the war between Iran and Israel, the Associated Press reported. US President Donald Trump is considering US military involvement, which Araghchi said would be "very unfortunate".
He made the statement to the media in Istanbul on his way back from talks in Geneva, which failed to produce a diplomatic breakthrough.
After the talks ended, Araghchi said he was open to further dialogue, but stressed that Tehran had no interest in negotiating with the US while Israel continued to attack. Araghchi arrived in Istanbul to participate in a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), whose agenda is dominated by the topic of Tehran's ongoing conflict with Israel, DPA recalls.
