The Russian classic VAZ-2105/2107 takes the seventh place in the list of the most popular cars from the world's manufacturers. The rating was compiled by the British publication Autocar, whose experts ranked the models according to their circulation.
From 1980 to 2015, more than 18 million cars from the VAZ-2105/2107 family were produced in Togliatti with various modifications and not only for the Russian markets. Despite the huge circulation, the Soviet model occupies only seventh place in the list of the most popular cars.
The leader in the ranking is the Toyota Corolla, which has sold more than 51 million copies since 1966. The next car, with 43 million vehicles sold, is the Ford F-Series pickup family, which has been assembled since 1948. Volkswagen Golf closes the top three. The German concern has produced more than 36 million hatchbacks since 1974.
In addition, the top ten bestsellers include Honda Civic, Opel Corsa, Nissan Sunny, as well as Chevrolet Impala, BMW 3 Series and Renault Clio. At the same time, the list contains models that no longer exist, but at one time sold millions of copies. For example, the American brand Oldsmobile produced about 12 million copies of the Cutlass model, and Mazda 30 years ago stopped assembling cars from the Familia family, which at that time were bought by more than ten million customers.
The last, 60th place on the list is occupied by Bugatti with the rare Type 40 model, which the French produced from 1926 to 1930. About a century ago, 807 copies of this car were sold. In mid-July, experts named the most popular cars on the European market. According to the results of the first half of the year, the Romanian crossover Dacia Sandero is the leader.
