Drastically more expensive flowers on the eve of March 8 - 1

Tomorrow is March 8 - a paradise for flower sellers. Every year there is a price increase, but this time the reasons are related to higher costs for growing them. This year's flower prices are up 10%, report producers in the Ruse region. According to traders, however, it is not the price, but the quality that determines the interest of customers.

One of the largest flower greenhouses in the Ruse region is owned by Sabri Ahmedov from Slivo Pole. Due to the higher costs of growing flowers, this year he offers them about 10% more expensive, reports BNT.

Sabri Ahmedov, agricultural producer: “This is basically based on the cold winter. Based on a few sunny days, such as more fuel consumption. Electricity costs, which in December are 850 leva, in January are 850 euros. The price generally determines the quality. We cannot compete with imports from Greece.“

The lower prices of flowers in large retail chains force some small traders to compromise with their profits in order to remain competitive and retain their customers.

Albena Veleva, trader: “We can always maneuver at our own expense. We are simply concerned about these large chains – the prices there, which are, one might say, below our delivery prices. We are fading as a florist service.“

The price of tulips and hyacinths this year varies between 2 and 4 euros, and the classic red rose is sold for nearly 5 euros.

Milena Raykova, trader: “The most sought-after flower at the moment is the garden flower – tulip, daffodil, hyacinth. Prices are about 5-6% higher than last year. There is no lack of interest in flowers. Rather, the holiday, which falls on March 8, would have influenced the lower sale of flowers.“

„They are normal, because growing a flower requires effort and attention.“

„They are very expensive. Now 3 euros I saw some here. I liked them a lot, but they are expensive for me.“

„There is a difference in price, but it is not something very striking. It is nice to respect every lady for March 8.“

With each passing holiday, Bulgarians spend less and less money on lavish bouquets. Despite the increase in prices, you can still find something for everyone on the market.
