One of the most influential economists of our time, Professor Daron Acemoglu, winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics, will deliver a public lecture on the topic “Who will own the future?“ in Bulgaria.

Daron Acemoglu is a professor at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is among the most significant contemporary thinkers in the field of economics and technological development. He is recognized as one of the most cited and authoritative economists of our time.

His revolutionary books, including the world bestseller “Why Nations Fail“, co-written with James Robinson, and “Power and Progress“ (Power and Progress), are used as key textbooks in universities around the world. In them, Prof. Acemoglu examines the role of institutions, technology and innovation in economic growth, sustainable development and social equality. He raises the important question of how technological innovations can promote economic progress, but also increase inequalities if appropriate institutional mechanisms and policies are lacking.

Prof. Acemoglu's work has a direct impact on global economic policy, and his ideas are widely discussed in the European Commission, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. His lecture in Bulgaria is not only an important moment for the academic and business community, but also a symbol of the country's growing role in global economic and technological discussions.

The event organized by Green Transition Forum and Dir BG, provides a unique opportunity for the Bulgarian audience - economists, politicians, business leaders and students - to hear first-hand about Prof. Daron Acemoglu on the future of Europe and the world in the context of technological and institutional changes.
