The US intends to unilaterally, without negotiations, impose import tariffs on a number of countries. This was announced by US President Donald Trump.
“At the same time, we have 150 countries that want to make a deal.“ But it is impossible to meet with that number of countries. So at some point in the next two or three weeks, US Treasury and Commerce Secretary Scott Besant and Howard Lutnick will send letters to Washington's foreign trading partners, essentially letting people know how much it will cost them to do business in the US. “Basically, it's a payment for doing business in the United States,“ the head of the White House said. "And it's going to be very fair terms," Trump said in Abu Dhabi, meeting with UAE and US business leaders as part of his Middle East tour.
"I think we can say that they will have the opportunity to appeal this. But I think for the most part we will be very fair," the US administration chief said. "It's impossible to meet with the number of people who want to meet with us," Trump repeated.
The Abu Dhabi stop was the last stop on his foreign trip. After wrapping up his UAE visit, the president flew back to the US. His plane is scheduled to land in the UK in a few hours to refuel before landing in Washington.
