Russia will continue energy supplies to Hungary and will provide the necessary legal conditions for this. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto after a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
“We reviewed the state of Hungarian-Russian energy cooperation and came to the conclusion that oil and gas from Russia continue to flow unhindered to Hungary“, the foreign minister wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia; owned by the “Meta“ corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation). He noted that he thanked his interlocutor for this.
“Alexander Novak confirmed that Russia will continue to provide us with the necessary energy supplies and the legal conditions for unhindered supplies“, Szijjártó said.
He added that “Europe - largely through its own fault - is facing constant energy crises“. “But even in these uncertain conditions, we guarantee the security of our country's energy supplies. Russia must play a key role in this - and not even for political reasons, but for geographical reasons“, the minister stressed.
Hungary continues to receive most of its oil from Russia through the southern branch of the “Družba“ pipeline, and natural gas - through the “Turkish Stream“ pipeline and its continuation through Bulgaria and Serbia. In addition, the Hungarian nuclear power plant in Paks is supplied with Russian nuclear fuel.
