Artificial intelligence (AI) technology leaders Google and OpenAI have signed an agreement to provide access to each other's cloud computing capabilities, Reuters reported, citing sources.
The deal gives OpenAI access to Google Cloud's cloud computing capabilities for training artificial intelligence models. The partnership with Google also allows OpenAI to reduce its dependence on Microsoft, whose cloud platform the company previously worked on. Google, for its part, has been able to significantly expand its cloud division.
The agreement between the two AI giants, which was negotiated over several months, was reached back in May, but became known only now. OpenAI and Google declined to comment, but Reuters speculated that both sides would cooperate despite the competition because they need computing power.
OpenAI is an American company specializing in the development of artificial intelligence systems. The company developed and in 2022 introduced ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence program capable of maintaining a dialogue with the user and generating texts in various formats. In addition, ChatGPT can solve mathematical problems, translate from one foreign language to another and write programming code for mobile applications.
