Hungary starts battle with Brussels to avoid renunciation of Russian energy resources - 1

Hungary is ready to enter into battle with the European Commission to prevent a complete renunciation of Russian energy resources by the end of 2027. This was stated by the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, speaking on the morning program of the Kossuth radio station.

He noted that on June 16 “a serious battle will begin“, when a meeting of EU energy ministers will be held in Luxembourg. It will be attended by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who is responsible for international energy cooperation in the government. “At the meeting, the ministers will start discussing the European Commission's proposal to ban all EU countries from buying oil, gas and nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants from Russia“, Orbán said.

“This proposal will kill the Hungarian economy.“ “ “Our families have already suffered from the rise in energy prices over the past two or three years, and I simply don't see how they can bear a new financial burden. So we need to prevent the consequences of the European Commission's bad decision. This is our only chance to protect families from rising utility bills, to protect their monthly budgets. That is why the foreign minister is starting a fight on Monday that will continue in the coming weeks“, Orbán assured.

In early May, the European Commission presented a plan to completely abandon Russian energy by the end of 2027. Hungary receives most of its oil, gas and nuclear fuel for its Paks nuclear power plant based on long-term contracts with Russia.
