Dimo Drenchev: Bulgaria is taking on millions of guarantees for Ukraine, while its own municipalities are on a water regime

"Note, until 2065 Bulgaria guarantees the loans of municipalities in Ukraine, instead of financing, for example, the water cycle, education or healthcare in its own municipalities. On top of that, the European Investment Bank will charge us a fee of 100 thousand euros per year for this "pleasure" within the next three years," the MP from "Vazrazhdane" also commented

Dimo Drenchev: Bulgaria is taking on millions of guarantees for Ukraine, while its own municipalities are on a water regime - 1

An extraordinary budget committee has concluded in the National Assembly, at which the ruling party approved Bulgaria to become a guarantor, along with four other European countries, of the loans that the European Investment Bank provides for the repair of the infrastructure of municipalities in Ukraine. The decision caused a sharp reaction from Dimo Drenchev from "Vazrazhdane".

„As a member of parliament from the Pernik region, I simply cannot believe that this is a reasonable decision, because we have, for example, the municipality of Breznik, which is on a water regime and people literally do not have clean water to drink. At the same time, Bulgaria is providing a 20 million leva bank guarantee“, commented Dimo Drenchev.

He emphasized that our country is making a long-term commitment that will weigh on us for decades to come:

„Note that until 2065, Bulgaria guarantees the loans of municipalities in Ukraine, instead of financing, for example, the water cycle, education or healthcare in its own municipalities. On top of that, the European Investment Bank for this "pleasure" will charge us 100 thousand euros per year in fees for the next three years.“

The People's Representative also drew attention to another expense adopted at the meeting - another 2.5 million leva for additional equipment for the two frigates being built for the Bulgarian Navy. “Their price has gradually, over the last two years, swelled to one billion and 300 million leva. Their completion is still not in sight, and according to the military themselves, more expenses are yet to come“, he said.“
