PP-DB will not support the vote of no confidence in the government, requested by "Vazrazhdane" because of the water crisis. This was announced to the Bulgarian National Radio by Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria", a PP-DB MP.
"Votes of no confidence should not be devalued. They should be used carefully and well motivated. They should not be trifled with. Otherwise, they serve as an excuse for the ruling party that they cannot do their job in parliament".
The water shortage is not something that can be solved in a month, Bozhanov believes. However, he defines it as a consequence of "the seizure of the state and the illegitimate exercise of power".
The government does nothing for the people and anger is building up that power is being exercised illegitimately
“Public tension increased after our vote of no confidence and after the PP action in front of the parliament entrance, which we support. With his phrase about the five prime ministers, Boyko Borisov tried to obscure who the real prime minister is - Delyan Peevski. The government does nothing for the people and anger is building up that power is being exercised illegitimately.” This was stated by the co-chairman of “Yes, Bulgaria” Bozhidar Bozanov in an interview for the program “Sunday 150” on BNR.
He reminded that Peevski himself admitted that he calls ministers and gives them tasks, writes letters to the prime minister, sends ministers to Pleven, and people see all this and anger builds up. “No one can predict when this anger will escalate, but at its core is Peevski's illegitimate exercise of power, especially over the judiciary through the Supreme Judicial Council”, said Bojanov.
According to the party leader, if Borisov wanted to emancipate himself from Peevski, he had at least two opportunities to do so in the last year and a half. The first was during the rotation of the previous government, when the “Denkov” cabinet was supposed to transform into the “Gabriel” cabinet, but Peevski did not allow him because he would have lost his power over the judiciary. The second possibility was during GERB's negotiations with the Democratic Party of Bulgaria for a government at the beginning of this parliament, when the Democratic Party of Bulgaria again set the rule of law as a condition, and there were even options for 160 votes without the New Beginning. “Whether out of fear or dependence, Borisov did not decide on this step. His current reactions are a combination of tension and a dose of theater”, believes Bozhanov.
Bozhanov confirmed the information announced by “Yes, Bulgaria” last week that an order was issued to mayors of the Democratic Party of Bulgaria-New Beginning to gather people in buses for a counter-protest to the protest last Thursday against the mafia and the conquered state. A possible interpretation, according to him, is that Borisov stopped this counter-protest. But he is convinced that Peevski has no way back and is looking for an escalation, like in Rosenets 5 years ago. “Then our and their voters sang the anthem together on the beach. Borisov is accumulating negativity from this administration, which is why he is distancing himself from it and did not support his government in the vote of no confidence. Such an escalation could be a motive for throwing in the towel”, said Bozanov.
The people's representative recalled that Peevski's long-term goal, which he himself has publicly stated, is to become prime minister. But he warned that if it comes to early elections, GERB will have to provide the answers about this administration, from which they are now hiding.
“The protests and dissatisfaction are not necessarily conscious of the illegitimate use of power, but they are a consequence of the conquered state. 500 million leva leaked from the Borisov-3 cabinet to Peevski's companies, when we talk about the water shortage. On the poorly built “Trakia” highway "...three-hour traffic jams are formed outside the tourist season," Bozhanov gave examples.
Asked to comment on President Radev's words that "we must build a wall against the corruption in power, of which Delyan Peevski has become a symbol", the co-chair of "Yes, Bulgaria" replied that this is a paraphrase of the cordon sanitaire, which was supposed to limit Peevski's illegitimate influence, and which was torn apart with the active participation of GERB. "This call is reasonable, but the right moment was when the government was formed. It will never be too late for a cordon sanitaire and at every next political opportunity we must return to it," said Bozhidar Bozhanov.
According to the party leader, votes of no confidence should not be devalued and should be well motivated. Nor should the frequency of votes be exaggerated. MECH, who have seen the motives of the new initiative of “Vazrazhdane” for a vote of no confidence in the government due to the water crisis, have said that they will not support it, we do not intend to support it either, said Bozanov.
As for the request for the resignation of the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova, he reminded that his coalition had already asked for her resignation, and on Monday the Executive Council of “Yes, Bulgaria” would discuss this possibility. He reminded that Kiselova's election was tied to the cordon sanitaire, but she and the parties that supported her broke it. And now Kiselova has distributed the bills of the ruling party, by which the heads of the special services should now be elected by parliament, to a parliamentary committee to which such laws have never been distributed, simply because the relevant committee is currently chaired by the opposition. “In 2013, GERB was on the front line of the protests against Peevski, when he headed the State National Security Agency, now they are serving him to install someone at the head of the State National Security Agency”, said Bojanov, referring to the deputy head of the State National Security Agency Denyo Denev, who is associated with Peevski, whom the president refused to appoint as the head.
Bozhanov shared that in his greeting as a guest at the General Assembly of “Continuing the Change” held on Saturday and Sunday, he reminded of the confederal model of the PP-DB coalition, indicated in the Plan for Resistance announced at the beginning of the month and that “in this format we must convince people that we are the alternative to the conquered state, for which we have a lot of work ahead of us”.
