For the second day, the country is in the grip of bad weather - unusually low temperatures, snowfalls and even the risk of flooding. Over 500 problem areas along the riverbeds are under surveillance, and the BG-ALERT system is ready to be activated if necessary. All ministries, departments, regional governments and municipalities must review their disaster protection plans, Nova TV reported.
After the first snow of the season yesterday - mostly in the mountainous regions - today an orange code for significant precipitation has been declared for as many as 20 districts. In Central and Northwestern Bulgaria, the warning is also for snow.
The snow cover accumulated in the mountains will continue to increase, and snow drifts are expected on the passes - so drivers should be on the alert.
It continues to snow intensely on the Petrokhan Pass. In its higher parts, where the snow cover is 25-30 cm, there are fallen branches and trees. On Thursday, the road had to be closed for about 3 hours. “I urge drivers to travel through the pass only if absolutely necessary”, said the director of the OPU-Montana Volodya Valov.
The meteorological situation also became the reason for the Minister of the Interior to convene an emergency meeting of the services and five ministers. At the meeting, it became clear that the European Flood Warning System sees possible problems in nine areas in our country.
