There were many reasons to create a constitutional crisis, the question is whether we can overcome them. The moment is ripe for the problems to be resolved and the issue will be resolved. The situation is no longer normal - a Punic war is being waged between prosecutors and judges, which turns the judiciary into a political one. This was stated by the constitutional law lecturer Prof. Plamen Kirov in the program “From the Day” on BNT.
The magistrates are not to blame for this war, but the National Assembly - the political authority. The Parliament is the one that must issue the quota for the formation of a new composition of the Supreme Judicial Council. They are not even trying to start the procedure, the constitutionalist noted.
"The mandate of the Prosecutor General has expired. But Sarafov continues to fulfill this role, because the state body will annihilate itself and there will be no one to fulfill these functions. The problem comes from outside," said Prof. Kirov.
According to him, the text of the law on the judiciary is written on the knee. It acts for the future, not on the status quo.
Prof. Kirov expressed hope that a small dose of normality remains and efforts will be made to get out of the situation with the election of the Prosecutor General. According to him, Sarafov's acts do not become meaningless, because at the moment he is the acting Prosecutor General.
