"Everyone was expecting big news. And the big news is that there was no news. It all happened because Borisov was irritated by the publications and comments addressed to him regarding the elections in Pazardzhik - that he had lost, that his party was falling, that he was lagging behind. He decided to check for himself what the situation was. To feel the pulse. He had all his MPs and local leaders consult with the people. After he realized that they were stable, he could now go to any negotiations, knowing what trump cards he held."
This was stated on the air of the program “Your Day” on NOVA NEWS, communication expert Nidal Algaffari on the government shake-ups last week, which also led to the cancellation of a cabinet meeting.
And he added that “the rest was simply everyone's desire to practice witty comments, which is funny”.
According to journalist Lyudmil Iliev, however, “there may be no big news”, but one big conclusion should be drawn from the last week. Namely, that everything “that those in power have been telling us so far, that this government exists to keep the country stable, turns out to be false”.
”We saw how, for purely political reasons, not even for national reasons, but because of some municipal elections in Pazardzhik, the country was practically stopped. Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov easily refused to lead the government, and Boyko Borisov – as chairman of his parliamentary group, initiated the closure of the parliament. The state did not work for a whole week, because everyone expected a major political upheaval, which in the end did not even happen”, he recalled.
Algaffari, however, did not agree with the thesis that “Zhelyazkov canceled the government of the state”. “A meeting of the Council of Ministers was canceled, but the government of the state was not stopped. They simply decided to get together with the coalition partners and assess who has how much power”, he explained.
For his part, Iliev commented: ”I spoke with colleagues – government reporters with many years of experience. Such a thing has never happened before. In all kinds of crises – protests, scandals, accidents, the Council of Ministers has met. And now it is not meeting because GERB lost the elections in Pazardzhik. Is this normal?”.
According to Algaffari, however, the government of the country has not been stopped - it is just that a session has not taken place.”There was a period when the opposition did not allow a quorum, and this is a logical political game”, he recalled.
But according to the journalist, such political behavior “creates a dangerous precedent, because next time they may stop the work of the country for a month”, to which the communications expert replied: “No one has stopped the country. We have stability, there will be a government and it will serve its term”.
