All three bills for amendments to the Law on Medical Institutions, which were supposed to guarantee fair pay for young doctors, will be rejected today. This was stated by the leader of MECH Radostin Vassilev on the sidelines of the parliament, defining what is happening as an “unprecedented act“.
“Three bills, adopted by a majority on first reading, will be rejected on second reading. This shows that GERB and – DPS – New Beginning&rdash; are in the situation “we really wanted to, but we didn't want to“, commented Vassilev.
According to him, the government does not want to adopt a legal definition of a minimum salary for young doctors, which would cost the state about 250 million leva per year.
“Instead, complex mechanisms are being proposed through the health insurance budget, the National Health Insurance Fund or the Ministry of Health, which will not actually lead to a result. This is a way to do nothing“, said the MP.
Vassilev emphasized that the problem can be solved with a national policy on remuneration, healthcare and guaranteeing jobs for the dignity of the profession.
“With Borisov and Peevski at the helm, this cannot be done. There is no political will for the salaries of doctors and nurses to be decent. The sooner this cabinet leaves, the better,“ he also said.
Radostin Vassilev commented that some of the ministries – of transport, health, sports and regional development – function as “concession”, and not as real state institutions in the service of society.
