The Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions (CITUB) has renewed its call for the so-called living wage, not the average wage for the country, to be adopted as a measure of income policy, BNR reports.
According to the leader of the union Plamen Dimitrov, otherwise there is a risk of a constant increase in inflation:
"The determination of wages by law, tying them solely to a value that is arithmetic value, and a derivative of the wages in question, is economically untenable. We cannot all want to be at the average wage, no matter how right we are to want it. This is a sure spiral of inflation, we cannot help but admit it. It must stop, but it must be replaced with something else that does not come from wages, but from prices", commented Dimitrov.
According to a definition introduced by the International Labor Organization, a living wage is the level of pay necessary for a decent standard of living.
The methodology can be easily applied by the National Statistical Institute based on data from household budgets, according to the Confederation of Bulgarian Trade Unions.
According to their data, in over a third of the countries in the European Union, income policy is tied to the amount necessary for the maintenance of life.
